Infant Room Information

Welcome to the Infant Room! In addition to all the love and attention your child receives, our classroom focuses on enhancing various skills throughout the day. Primarily, our teaching staff offers the highest level of care for your infant. Secondary, our teaching staff develops skills such as gross and fine motor skills, language, social skills, science and sensory, math, art, music, and more through our curriculum lesson plans. Below is an overview of what to expect when your infant is in care. Thank you for inquiring about our classroom and the opportunity to care for your child. We look forward to getting to know your family.

Caring for your Infant:

Our classroom prides itself on offering high quality childcare for your infant. Our staff is attentive and dedicated to your child's needs throughout the day. Teacher-child interaction is very important to us as a childcare Center.

One of the most important qualities our staff offers in the infant room is LOVE for our children. We rock a child that is having a bad day in the rocking chair and we pick up and cuddle with a baby that is crying. We are constantly sitting on the floor talking and playing with the babies. They get a ton of attention from the teachers all day long.

Building Relationships:

We believe an infant needs a consistent and loving caregiver. Someone who is always there when they cry, need to eat, need to sleep, or when they just need a hug and some love. We are always there to give love and affection to the babies! We insist on building a solid relationship of trust between the parent, caregiver, and child.

Learning Through Play:

We look for ‘teachable moments' where teachers can guide children to learn through play. While your child interacts with staff, we also encourage your child to interact with other children. Teaching children, at a young age, to share with each other and take turns is an important skill to learn at an early age.

Lesson Plans & Activities:

Our team of teachers consistently plan and implement activities throughout the day. We encourage growth and development by planning age appropriate, fun, activities for infants to participate in. Our lesson plans are posted on our parent boards for parents to review.

Parent Boards:

Our classroom has two parent board located inside and outside the classroom for parents to review. Please check for information such as lesson plans, child sickness, lunch menu, upcoming events, newsletters, and other important information. Our parent boards are updated weekly to keep parents informed.

Tummy Time:

Throughout the day, our staff encourages children to work on their muscles by offering a tummy time. This is usually a brief period of time a couple of times per day. Tummy time encourages children to develop their gross motor skills by pushing up on with their arms. Eventually, the child will learn to crawl from this position. Having infants getting used to being on their bellies is an important step for the development process. We love playing with infants on their bellies!

Simple Sign Language:

Our staff enhances the communication process through simple sign language. We teach children certain key words like more, please, all done, thank you, love, help, etc. Various signs are taught throughout the day while in care. We continue teaching the children simple sign language when your child transitions into the toddler room. There is a poster in the room of all the sign language words our staff teaches the children. Should your child perform a hand motion all the time at home and you do not know what it means, don't be afraid to ask us!

Star of the Week:

Our children participate in a program called "Star of the Week". Each week a child is picked (every child will get a turn) and he/she will be the "Star of the Week". This project is for parents to make a poster about themselves so we can hang it in our classroom and everyone can look at it for the whole week! The parents love doing this and the children love looking at the pictures.

Child Schedule Forms:

Each child has their own schedule and we follow what every child needs. Parents can update their child's schedule as the child grows in age and needs to have their schedule adjusted. Please complete a new child schedule form should your child's schedule need to be updated. Child schedule forms are located in the classroom.

Child Transitions:

The transition process begins at about 13-14 months of age, depending on your child's development. During this time, when infants begin showing signs of leaving the infant stage and entering the toddler stage, we introduce a new schedule, consistent with the toddler room. Your toddler will begin learning new skills such as sleeping on a cot, drink from a sippy cups, and using utensils. We practice these skills until they are ready to transition, which is about the 15 month mark. Within this time, your child will begin visiting the toddler room for a couple of hours during the day in a two-week period. Once the child is comfortable in their new surroundings and the child is emotionally, socially, and cognitively ready, the transition will be finalized. Please ask should you have any questions about the transition process.

Diaper Changes:

Diapers are changed every two hours, unless needed. All diaper changes are recorded on the daily sheets and marked with the teacher's initials upon changing. All little hands are washed after diaper changes to prevent germs from spreading.

Cribs & Personal Belongings:

Every crib in the classroom is labeled with a child's name and schedule on it. Each child is assigned their own crib, unless they have to share depending on the child's schedule. In rare cases, a child may have two cribs in the classroom, again depending on the classroom schedules. If that is the case, each day the crib sheet will be changes and the crib will be bleached down. Under the crib there is a storage bin for your child's belongings. Please store your extra diapers, wipes, clothes and whatever else they want to bring. Please take home your child's blanket on Fridays to be washed.

It is very crucial that all items are labeled with your child's name on it. All bottles must be dated and labeled for use. Please take home all empty bottles, jar foods, etc. for sanitary purposes upon pick up.

Daily Sheets & File Folders:

Each child will have a completed daily sheet form outlining how your child did for the day upon pick up. Information on your child's needs, such as supplies, eating, sleeping, diapering, etc. is updated on this form. Please read carefully. Also, your child will have a folder which is filled with information being sent home for parents. Folders need to be checked daily!

Daily Sign-In & Sign - Out Procedures & Washing Child's Hands:

Upon drop-off and pick-up, please sign your child in and out. This attendance record is very important in the security process for our classroom. We also ask that you please wash your child's hands upon drop-off before being cared for. Thank you.

Classroom Cleaning:

All classroom materials, high chairs, counters, fridge, diaper changers, toys, cribs, infant seats, etc. are consistently sanitized and cleaned throughout the day. From mopping, vacuuming, to washing crib rails, we ensure that we maintain a high level of cleanliness for your infant.

Toddlers

Welcome to the Toddler Program!
Ratio- 1: 5 / Ages: 15 months – 2 years

Welcome to the toddler room! Although sometimes our 15 month olds are thought of as babies, in this room we like to start thinking about them as toddlers and becoming more independent. By 15 months old and before entering the room there are a few things we would like for your toddler to be able to do in order to get the best experience they can:

1.) Drink whole milk from a sippy cup(unless allergic then a milk supplement must be used)
2.) Be an active walker and
3.) Be able to feed themselves.

The toddler years are some of the most crucial times in a child’s life to begin learning new things and understanding themselves. We are dedicated to helping your child reach their highest level of learning and are excited to have you join us! Below is a packet of information that is very important in understanding what goes on in the toddler room and the activities we encounter on a daily basis. Should you ever have any questions about our program, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you, your classroom teachers.

Independence:

(These are the activities we work on everyday with your child that take the first steps in learning independence.)

  • Cleaning up toys
  • Putting our sippy cups in the sink when finished eating

Goals:

(All of the activities we work on for independence are viewed as goals. Below are some of the goals we strive to reach.)

  • Being able to understand simple directions (ex: bring me your shoe)
  • Sit down for circle time ( for at least 5 minutes)
  • Using please, thank-you and more in sign language and by using our words
  • Sharing with our friends
  • Saying “sorry” when needed
  • Using nice hands
  • Learning to color, paint, and do other art activities
  • Recognize familiar pictures (ex: dog, cat, boat, shoe)
  • Turning pages in a book
  • Pushing, pulling and dumping objects
  • Learning a vocabulary of 8-10 words

Structured Daily Schedule:

Our classroom follows a routine as per our daily schedule. We also plan many fun, interactive themed activities for toddlers. We follow the schedule posted on our parent board and work with the children to try and follow it. Though, it is not always precise, we do want the children to learn routine. This helps children learn how to follow directions and know what is coming next to make smoother transitions. It also teaches independence. Please visit our parent board which outlines our daily schedule.

Daily Notes to Parents:

Every day your child will come home with a detailed report for parents to review. This report also contains parent information regarding any specific items needed for your child’s daily care. Please review this form upon pick up.

Simple Sign Language:

Our toddlers are just learning how to communicate with using their words and their bodies. To enhance the communication process, our classroom teachers use simple sign to help facilitate that process. Sign language is used at random times with words such as help, more, eat, please, thank you, up, down, etc. It is neat to see a toddler develop his communication methods using their little hands. Children are like sponges, the more they know, the more they grow!

2 Year Old

Welcome to the 2 Year Old Program!
Ratio 1:8/ Ages: 2 years

We believe in creating many life long, positive memories in our classroom. This classroom is filled with children at that age who are constantly seeking attention and praise daily. This is the room where they see themselves as independent individuals who love having all eyes on them! Yes, the two year old stage can be challenging, but our classroom is especially created for children whom we adore. From circle time to outside play to toilet training, it all happens in here. We enjoy caring for your child on a daily basis and look forward to getting to know your family. Below is an overview of what to expect from the Under the Sea classroom.

Self-help Skills:

A big part of being two years old is becoming independent. It is a very confusing time for the child and can be very frustrating for us adults as well. Here are a few things we will be encouraging your child to do on their own. We would greatly appreciate you to do the same as much as possible.

  • Pulling up and down their pants
  • Drinking from a cup without a lid
  • Putting on/off their coat
  • Washing hands
  • Putting on/off their shoes
  • Using their words
  • Using fork/spoon

Potty Training:

When your child is about 2 ½ years old we will be encouraging them to use the toilet. They will probably have started to show signs of readiness. Then we will begin teaching them the skills they will need to toilet train. Information will be available at any given time we feel the child is ready!

Expressive Art:

When the children are expressing themselves through art they tend to be messy. We will do our best to keep them clean by providing smocks and washing them off right away. There are going to be times when they will still have art evidence from their creative side when you come to pick-up. Please keep in mind they are exploring and having fun.

Academics:

We are not just gong to be coloring and painting. We believe your child can begin their education right here in our classroom! We will work with ABC’s, 123’s, shapes, and colors. We will encourage the children to learn to identify as much as possible. There will be many activities that will go on in the classroom. Many activities include being read to daily, learning new songs, learning from flashcards, simple sign and Spanish, practicing with scissors much, much more. Along with that they will get to explore with sensory activities such as water, textures, shaving cream, goop, and much more!

Curriculum Portfolios:

Beginning with the 2 year old classroom, in addition to the academics program, we will introduce curriculum portfolios to the children. Curriculum Portfolios are specifically designed to age and have many different activities within the folder that measures your child’s skill level. Teachers keep track of your child’s progress through out the year and measure their developing skills. Each curriculum portfolio is kept in the classroom and will transition with your child into the next classroom. At the end of June, each child will be given their curriculum portfolio for parents to review. Teachers also have the opportunity to comment on their developing skills through out the year. Feedback to parents is extremely important while your child is in care. Please feel free to browse through a sample curriculum portfolio to see what your child will be learning.

Naptime:

After lunch the children will lay down for a nap. We encourage them to sleep and will help them by sitting next to them and rubbing backs. Not all children sleep and that’s ok. Please bring in a blanket for your child to have at rest time and if they need a stuffed animal. Please limit to one blanket and one stuffed animal. Please label all belongings. All blankets must be taken home to be cleaned by the end of the week.

Family Picture:

Sometimes the children may get sad or upset and to see a face that they know is calming for them. So we ask that you provide a family photo to be displayed in the classroom.

Star of the Week:

Each child will have a turn to shine and show off things about themselves. With the help of family they can create a display poster with pictures highlighting family members, favorite toys, foods they like etc. BE CREATIVE AND HAVE FUN! The teachers will notify you by letter when it is your child’s turn.

Pacifiers:

We understand that every child is different. If your child is still taking a pacifier we will help you break the habit. We will allow it ONLY during nap time. It must be left in the hallway cubbies. We will try not to use it at all. We will keep you posted of the progress and hopefully together we can help eliminate that habit.

Children's File Folders:

Each child will have a file folder in which teachers will place their daily art work, projects, and information from teachers and management. Please remember to check it every night upon pick up.

Wish List:

We are always very grateful for anything that you no longer need or use, that we could use in the classroom. Donations are always welcomed. Any old treasures will be new treasures in our classroom! Please feel free to donate items of no use from your family. We can turn anything into art projects or sensory items in a flash!!!

Welcome To The 3’s & 4’s Room!

Parent Information listed below describes the fun and learning activities children experience every day. Our main focus is to provide a safe environment full of new learning experiences for every child to enhance their uniqueness and prepare them for a bright future in kindergarten. We love to have parents to become involved as part of the program, so please don't hesitate if you have a comment, suggestion, or want to visit with us during the day. We want to welcome you and your family into our program. Thank you.

Circle Time:

Circle time give us the opportunity to engage in cognitive and social skills. During this time children practice their language and listening skills. We learn and talk about the days of the week, months and seasons of the year, colors, shapes, letters and sounds. We also explore on math concepts, we practice counting, identifying numbers, adding and subtracting, as well as to tell the time.

Book Concept:

It is really important and helpful for children to learn what a title, an author, and an illustrator is when introducing new books to the children. While reading to the children, we teach them these important skills to help them in their elementary years.

Sight Words:

It is really fun for children to be able to recognize and read words. First we sound out each letter, and then we read it as one word. Our goal is to teach our students at least ten words and have them read simple sentences with those ten sight words.

Spanish:

We introduce Spanish in our program. Children learn the colors, numbers, shapes, days of the week, and some songs in Spanish. We take advantage of every little opportunity to teach the children Spanish.

Show and Tell:

Every Friday we have show and tell, children get to bring something that begins with the Letter of the Week or the Color of the Month to show and discuss with our class. Children get to practice their listening and language skills, by asking questions, taking turns talking and listening to each other. Learning these skills is very important when facilitating classroom discussions.

Letter Of The Week:

This is another exciting activity we implement in our program. Students take turns working on The Letter of the Week. We begin by tracing the letter at school and then sending it home with the child to decorate and glue anything that begins with that letter. What a fun way to learn!

Computers:

Computers are a large part of our program. Children are encouraged to learn new strategies, skills, and concepts through computer games and programs. This is a good way to enhanced their cognitive skills and develop new ones. Children love working together on the computer and we incorporate the computer into our program every day.

Star Of The Week:

Every child has an opportunity to “The Star of the Week”. Each parent will receive a Star of the Week letter indicating when it is your child’s turn. It is a very fun experience for every child to put their poster together describing their family members, pets, favorite vacations, etc. with pictures, stickers, and decorations. During circle time, The Star of the Week child has a chance to shine like real stars while showing their posters and explaining their pictures to our class. It gives the children the opportunity to get to know each other better. Parents really get involved with this project!

Family Tree:

We encourage families in our program to bring a family picture to be display on our Family Tree Board. It will give everyone the opportunity to get to know each other's family throughout the year.

File Folders:

Every child has a file folder with his/her name located in the classroom by the main door. Please remember to check it every day for art projects and other important information from management and teachers. Sometimes parents will invite other children to their child’s birthday party and you might receive birthday invitations and/or thank you cards in your child's file folder.

Rest Time:

After lunch the children are encouraged to take a nap from 12:30 to 2:30 in the afternoon. If children is not tired enough to take a nap, they have an opportunity to rest on their cots for a short time with a quiet activity. During this rest period time, teachers have the opportunity to clean up the classroom and prepare for afternoon activities. Usually children take advantage of this time and take good naps. We like having the children rest during this time because this allows them to be fresh for the afternoon activities.

Wish Lists:

Put your household trash into good use! As a childcare facility, we encourage families to support our Center by donating any household, crafts, or simple items in which will be disposed of. These items will used for projects throughout the year. Our classrooms are always in need of items such as brown paper bags, sequence, sewing items, old clothing for dress up, paper, etc. can always be turned into wonderful art or engaging activities. Welcome to the older 4's & Pre-K classroom!

The information listed below will give you an overview of some of the highlights of the morning Pre-K program. My job as the Pre-K Teacher is to prepare the children and be ready for Kindergarten. Through my formal education and background, my goal is to guide children to get the most out of this class. It is so exciting for me to encourage and care for these children during the day.

Letter and Word Recognition:

We sound out letters and words all morning long. Every letter has a sound, and this is how children learn to sound out words. I try to get them to be enthusiastic about reading. Reading is the foundation of all learning.

Daily Worksheets:

The kids do worksheets every day. Most of the kids ask me for the worksheets because they love the challenge. We do letters, sight words, shapes, colors, and math papers. This also builds their attention span for sitting for a long period of time.

Science and Math:

Science and Math are all about hands on. I do a lot of science projects like moldy bread, plants growing in baggies, and lighting a light bulb using a potato, just to name a few.

Long-Term Projects:

The class really enjoys engaging in long-term projects. There favorite seems to be science. I like to expose the children to learn how to do hand on activities and have them complete their own projects as well. They get to experience the whole project, learning the process from start to finish.

Star of the Week:

Parents will be asked to put together a poster containing your family’s fun events, or special moments that will be displayed for friends to see. The week before it’s your child’s turn to be Star of the Week, I send home paperwork with all the information.

Wish List:

We are always very grateful for anything that you no longer need or use, that we could use in the classroom. Donations are always welcomed. Any old treasures will be new treasures in our classroom!

Our school age program is designed to offer a safe, healthy, and educational environment for children 5-12 years old before/after school, and during school days off and holiday vacations. We want parents to be assured that their child will be in an inviting and comfortable environment where staff strives to meet their emotional, social, and physical needs. We are equipped for caring for your school aged child by offering a variety of developmentally age appropriate activities both prepared by our staff and from independent learning activities of choice.

Our commitment to quality care for your school age child is to create a caring, warm, and exciting environment where children can complete homework, be creative, work independently and in small groups, support independent thinking, and encourage cooperative behavior. Our program goals also include promoting self-respect and respect for others; build self-esteem and confidence, and to help children improve their social skills. In addition to our child-focused curriculum, we plan fun, educational field trips during the summer and on non-school days and school breaks.

Kindergarten & School Age - Policies and Procedures - Non-School Days and Field Trips
Field Trips:

Field trips are part of the Before and After School Program. Scheduled field trips are “mandatory” for children needing full day care. Children will not be allowed to remain at the center while their class is on a field trip. In the case that a parent does not want their child on a field trip, only before and after school times can be accommodated for care at your regular weekly fee, and alternative care arrangements must be made during field trip times. The field trip fee, which is in addition to the full-day tuition, covers the cost of the activity, meals, and transportation. Registrants will be notified in advance if a field trip is planned for a school day off. By signing the Registration Forms, the registrant is giving A Child’s Place permission to take the child on planned field trip and is agreeing to the additional fees. Specific information about the field trip will be given to parents in advance to decide if your child will participate. Please call or sign your child up for field trips in advance prior to deadlines outlined on your parent notification form. If a child doesn’t attend for any reason after a parent calls to sign up, or signs their child up in advance, field trip fees and child care fees will be billed accordingly. Please note that only children who are in school, Kindergarten and older, are qualified to attend field trips. Children in Pre-K, age 5, do not qualify as part of policies and procedures.

Early Dismissal/School Days Off:

If your child needs additional care and/or wants to participate in a field trip, registrants are responsible for signing their child up for the additional days of care needed. Please note that if a registrant calls or signs up for additional care and does not attend care for any reason, your account will be invoiced and payment will be due. If no arrangements are made but your child attends care, your account will be invoiced and payment will be due. Additional childcare fees and field trips fees are non-refundable and will be charged to your account. Sign up deadlines will be posted on the informational parent table.

Summer Care:

Children enrolled in the Before and After School Program will have first priority to enroll in the “Summer Camp Adventure” program through A Child’s Place. All policies and procedures of the “Summer Camp Adventure” Program will be distributed to parents in a timely manner along with all registration materials, program meeting dates, fees, camp calendar, etc. Please see the Summer Camp Section of our parent handbook, or the Summer Camp Section of our website for further information. Please note that only children who have finished Kindergarten and older, are qualified for summer camp. Children in Pre-K, age 5, do not qualify as part of policies and procedures. Families who enroll for summer camp will be required to pay all registration fees and security deposits.
